I have installed Windows XP Pro x64 on my machine.

I am testing all my video editing applications before I remove the dual boot.

I loaded the 32bit VirtualDubMod and it will not play and DV or AVI footage. Says something about the directshow driver or VFW not installed or supported. I have installed the Panasonic and Canopus DV codec for viewing and they did nothing.

I installed the 64bit version of Virtualdub and it plays the files fine, however there are no filters but the internal ones now. If I try to load any of the filters I use I get an error about it not being a valid 32bit application.

Anyone know how to get filters to work with VD64?

I tried looking for them and could not find them. I also noticed the Frameserver does not work in the 64 bit version of Virtualdub rendering it useless for me.

I was hoping to switch to x64. Looks like I'm still on hold with it.

    Thanks for the feedback....

To be sure, you might also ask Phaeron (VDub's creator) or post on the VirtualDub forums to see if there's a way to do it, or if there are, in fact, any 64-bit filters out there. I believe the links should be available from within VirtualDub (I don't have it with me to check, otherwise, I'd have posted links as well... :/ )

Exactly. 64bit plugins and 64bit VfW codecs for Vdub64 and 32bit plugins/VfW for the regular 32bit version. Installing a 32bit VfW DV codec should have allowed VDub to decode DV.

There is always AVISynth64. Once again, not that many plugins, including some of the internal ones being disabled. Plus resizing is slow.

64bit ffdshow is worth checking out since it offers VfW decoding/encoding as well as numerous filters via a VDub plugin. I had to have it install the vdub plugin to the ffdshow dir though since there is no registry entry to specify the vdub path and the file browser doesn't work for Inno Setup under x64, so you can't browse manually. Other than that, the installer works fine, at least here. The default NSIS installer doesn't work at all under x64.

I also compiled various dshow filters from guliverkli (Media Player Classic), that someone might find usefull. Not a hell of a lot of 64bit dshow apps though. Just graphedit and a couple of .NET based players. x64 doesn't even come with a 64bit mp3 decoder.

    Sonar X64 includes a 64bit encoder/decoder (mp3)

as well as the various good x64 forums - http://www.cakewalk.com/x64/ has a lot of good resources

though x64 in this area is still lacking .......

    Thanks for the info...

I was able to get the 32 bit Virtualdub to work with the Mainconcept DV codec.
However it will not install the handler to do frameserving to Procoder.

I'm close but not functional yet.

    @LSchafroth

Just out of curiosity, do you expect x64 versions of your favourite editors to improve speed of encoding/decoding your videos?

procoder works slower under x64 anyway

Anything that is fast uses assembly, which basically needs to be re-written for x64. If properly written for x64 you could see upto a 20% speed increase over 32bit. If porting to x64 involves disabling assembly, then it will be slower. Any pure C code should be faster though than it would be as 32bit.

I tested Procoder in my regular XP and it was getting .64 realtime.
I did the exact same thing in x64 XP and it was averaging .85 realtime.

I tried it with three different videos and got the same improvement each time.
Since there is so many problems with x64 and codecs and filters for Virtualdub I will stick with 32bit XP for now.

many such speed increases may be the result of faster I/O and/or windows configuration - than the proccess itself , non the less, an increase is an increase ...
