I wish to rip and save the video files on a DVD into my hard drive so I can play back those files in exactly the same order as on the DVD, I am being told that I will need to rip as an image [ISO] file and create a virtual drive to playback. I use Nero Ultra6, can anyone tell me if Nero can do this please? If not, then hwat freeware is there that will rip as ISO and create the virtual drive? Thanks.

Use DVDdecrypter to rip to Iso, then VLC can play the iso.

Can anyone tell me how to rip to ISO using decrypter please? I don't see any help files anywhere? I can't even find a forum for this software?

It doesn't have to be an ISO to be able to play it. You can just open the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in MediaPlayer Classic and it'll play just like it does in a DVD player.

The DVD I made was a compilation of about 20 music videos and they were burnt in a specific sequence so if I save the DVD to my hard drive, a program will have to play back the files in the exact sequence as the DVD which is why I am guessing that I will have to rip as an ISO file?

Read this it explains in detail about DVDdecrypter. Good Luck

If you want image mounting software (virtual drive) there is: Daemon Tools (still freeware I think), Slysoft's VirtualCloneDrive (freeware), Alchohol 52% & 120% (payware).
These software packages would mount your ISO image as a virtual drive (letter) so it would appear as an actual DVD insterted into an actual (but virtual) DVD drive.Some people say dog is mans best friend. I say that man is dog's best slave... At least that is what my dogs think. -
@Bodyslide
Thanks a million for the help, worked smoothly!
@Everyone else
Using VLC doesn't play the songs in the sequence of the DVD unless there is some special setting I have to use for this? If all ISO-playing softwares plays back the multiple files in random order then this defeats the purpose, is this the way it works or is there another software that playback the ISO exactly like it is on the DVD? -
Again,
It doesn't have to be an ISO to be able to play it. You can just open the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in MediaPlayer Classic and it'll play just like it does in a DVD player.

* DVDDecrypter => create ISO image of original disk on hard drive
* Daemon Tools => "mount" ISO image (inserts ISO image into "virtual" DVD drive added by DaemonTools install)
* use your normal DVD player software and point it to the "virtual" drive above ... menus, subtitles, etc all work as for original disk.
I think VLC just plays the tracks inside ISO as a single big MPG file in order, which isn't necessarily the "correct" sequence. Beside, don't you lose all the menu features etc that way?

@TJohns
Sorry, did not see your post before my last reply. No, the menus are there, I will aslo try out the Deamon tools software tomorow, will get back to you guys then, thanks. -
In MPC, hit ALT + ENTER to toggle fullscreen mode.
Right click on the video while playing to change aspect ratio or resolution, or to navigate the title set as needed."There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon." -- Raoul Duke -
Also, you can zoom in or out using the "1" & "9" keys on your keyboard's 10-key. The "5" key is the reset.

Yes, it works in fullscreen, thanks! If only I can figure out now how to get the files to play in correct sequence in any of the softwares mentioned above? With PowerDVD when I had tried the demo, the DVD when loaded would start playing immediately in the exact sequence in which it was recorded, this is what I want done with these files but can't seem to get it.
