  1. ok guys
i have a lot of problems with my tv card and converting
1.the best format that i can get with my tv card is mpeg-2
and when i want to convert this to Xvid(becuase i want the highest quality possible but not too much space) its double size of others.while others have a 24second clip and 5 mb and 95kbps bitrate,i have 24 second and 10 mb and 1356 kbps bitrate(i convert with VirtualDubMod and almost try all bitrates from 200 to 3000 but it doesnt work)
how can i fix this problem?
2.whats difference between VirtualDub and VirtualDubMod?
3.and is the mpeg-2 is the best or should try capturing with other formats to have better quality and little space.if i try to convert vob to X vid,is that be smaller than try to convert mpeg-2 to Xvid
hope to post this in right section
    i really need your help
    thx in advance

It's best to capture to the format you want directly. If you want XviD, capture in XviD. If you want mpg, capture in mpg.
If you can't capture directly to the format you want, capture to a as uncompressed as possible format like DV or hyffyuv, then encode to desired format.
    1) No video is 95kbps. Windows reports kBps - maybe you're confusing bits with bytes? What is it that doesn't work when you encode with XviD/VirtualDub? (almost try all bitrates from 200 to 3000 but it doesnt work)
    2) Mainly what source material it accepts.
    3) VOB is basically mpeg-2, (VOB isn't a file format as such, but a part of the Video DVD specs)
Don't try capturing if you're tight on space. Get a bigger HDD. Capturing (as most other video related tasks) is space consuming.

  3. when i put mouse on files it shows bit rate:95kbps dont know why?
andwhat do you suggest me to cap, with dvd recorders or the one that you alresdy said(capture in uncompressed format)
i want it to be high quality and reasonable space(like i said 24 second=5 mb)
i have enough sapce but when i want to upload it takes me a long time and while its not better quality than others(my file size are twice bigger)
thx for your quick answer man

As said, Windows shows bitrate in byte/second, whereas the rest of the world uses bits/second. 1 byte=8 bits - do the maths.
Capture un- or low compressed AVI. Encode to compressed (XviD/DivX) AVI with VirtualDub or wmv with Windows MovieMaker.
Use 2-pass VBR if quality and size is essential.
