  1. hey, I'm just looking for a good place to host some images. I went on a school study abroad type trip and we just need a place where we can upload the best of each of our photos. I've looked around at some of the image and/or photo upload/hosting places and can't seem to find one that does what I want.

Here's what I want if anyone knows of one:
    - Free (preferably, though cheap would work too)
    - Login w/personal photo album/file gallery (not these upload one file and you have to save the link stuff, we need to be able to collect it all in one place. One login's fine, I don't mind just giving the username and password to everyone).
    - No resizer/recompression (keeps the photo's at their orignal resolution and compression).
    - No limitation or high limitation on filesize (1.5Mb would be the smallest filesize limitation I could handle, 2.0Mb or 2.5MB is much prefered if there's one at all).
    - Tagging info (prefrably retains the file's tag, but also either keeps the filename, or else allows for a description to be typed in for each image).
    - Multiple file upload (where you can select multiple files to upload, rather than just one at a time).
    - Easy, works through browser (I can setup an FTP on my own webspace just fine, but I need something that is easy for other people from the group to be able to upload their photo's and then browse what's there with thumbnails, etc. If I knew more about web design, I'd just setup my own on my own webspace, unfortunately, I'm not very advanced in my web design skills).
    - Upload of other file types (so we can upload sounds and video we captured, this is "would be nice" feature, not really super important).

Let me know if anyone knows of one that fills all these categories (or close to it). The best I've been able to find is Webshots http://daily.webshots.com/signup which costs $2.50/month. I'll just go with it, unless someone here knows something better.

    My short film: www.jandjadventures.com
Is that your website? If so or anyone else in your group has their own website install a image gallery like coppermine: http://coppermine-gallery.net/index.php

Completely free and has many more features than what you have listed. The only limitation you're going to have is whatever limitations your host provides such as space.

  3. Thanks, this may work. I'll have to look into it though, not sure if I can install it with my webhost or not.

If anyone else has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them, but in the meantime I'll me looking into this. Thanks CoalMan.

    .
The requirements for Coppermine which is basically php & mysql are included with any basic hosting plan starting in the $7-$10 range. If that's what you're paying and don't have those features it's time to get a new host.

Yes I noticed that about the video sites too, alows them to build a huge "stock" portfolio for free. I wouldn't doubt yopu see a lot of those sites going into the business of selling them.

  7. Thanks man. It worked great. My host even had it sorta pre-setup where I just had to go to my control panel and click on the Coppermine option (among many modules) then click "install" and it set it up for me. I actually ended up upgrading it myself to the very latest build, but it was still easier than setting up the MySQL database and all that myself.

Thanks for the suggestion, the site is up and running great.
