I am thinking of editing program for mostly home use and want somthing simple but powerful.
I learned on the PP which was powerful but left me cold.
I am leaning now toward Vegas and was wondering if I need
somthing like the Procoder 2 for quality convertion of PAL - NTSC ?

Will I be able to use Procoder with Vegas ?

ProCoder 2.0 can be used in a variety of ways: as a wizard, as a standalone application, or as a plug-in for nonlinear editing packages including Canopus EDIUS and Adobe® Premiere® Pro 1.x.

the latest version of vegas does a better job of pal / ntsc conversion than procoder ...

though it still is worth it to read up on some of the tips and methods ..

you can frame serve to procoder from vegas though -- with the debugmode frame server

I'm actually pretty impressed with the conversion of 25 and 23.976 progressive to 29.97 interlaced. Procoder 2 adds in interlace frames, rather than blurring or otherwise distorting the footage. Very nice.

Still not found anything that does interlace to interlace, still using a hardware setup for that, just live with the partial blurring artifacts.

Architect is better than Encore, but I prefer Ulead DVDWS2 or DVD Studio Pro

Just out of curiosity, what do you like better with DVD WS than with Architect. I have both, and I like both, but I can't seem to find anything that DVD WS can do that Architect can't do as well, or often better.

You can use the Debugmode frameserve to frameserve from the Vegas timeline to ProCoder 2. This gives you the best of both worlds - a great editor and a high quality encoder.
