Water-marking requires re-encoding each frame... So something's gotta change.

You can maintain the original resolution and bitrate simply by setting your encoder correctly, however there is a good chance that there will be some reduction in quality due to the re-encoding. How much will likely vary from the clip to clip. As has been pointed out, there is no way to do this without re-encoding every clip.
MPEG movies is pretty broad. Are these DVDs, VCDs, isolated clips ?Read my blog here.

Hmmm so i have to encode each frame ... ok , so what software can i use ?
P.S. What software can i use to "view" clip proporties ( bitrate , etc ... ) -
A) VirtualDubMod (or AviSynth) + any mpeg encoder you can frameserve to
B) GSpot (2.52 beta or later (if such exist))
