Yes, it is possible to have DVDs before the official release date. Usually it's just a week or two at most, sometimes just a few days. It's against the rules, but there are always stores and store employees that do it anyway. Those discs are delivered well ahead of schedule and just sit on stock shelves in the back.

Unfortunately pretty much everyone else will have to wait until the release date to be able to help the OP.
    If in doubt, Google it.

To get back to the subject...

Try playing the ripped video with PowerDVD or similar. It can handle DVD formats a lot better than WMP. Even VLC Media Player wold likely work better. And are you using the latest version of DVDFab Decrypter? If it is ripping properly, you should have no problems with any sort of 'pixelation'.

I live in New York and I know that here at least it is illegal to release a movie before the studio release date.

Just because I have connections and you don't does not mean that I have the lowdown and you don't.
And finally if you want I will bet you $500.00 and I will prove to you that I can get dvds ahead of time,so put your money where your mouth is and if not then don't comment on something you know nothing about, so put up or shutup.!!

Since DVD follows the traditional supply chain model. All the retail outlets have to have inventory before the launch date. Big outlets normally stick to the official launch date. Smaller outlets are more "flexible." I got my Star Wars DVD at least a week ahead.

No-one was doubting that you can get them early; more the point that it's illegal for retailers to sell them before the release date.
    If in doubt, Google it.

No probs ripping it here. 29 chapters, backup made with DVDFabDecrypter, VOBBlanker & DVDShrink plays & navigates just fine.

I didn't have that problem (or any other) using the PSL2 Plugin for PgcEdit, or the new RipIt4Me program.

i've seen the chapter-problem on Ultraviolet and on Pink Panther. While i've been able to fix it, i'm still not sure exaclty how i did it. it was somewhere between vobblanker, pgcedit, & fixvts...

i ripped with pgcedit w/ psl plug-in. (which too is becoming troublesome on new titles). if i then open and reauthor with shrink, there are no chapters. i first have to play with it to get the chapters back.

  24. I ripped it twice with DVDFab Decrypter and still cannot burn it correctly. The first time I ripped it and went to shrink I got an error message. I ripped it again but this time only selected the Video_TS folder and it ripped fine. When I went to Shrink everything was there except the actual movie. When I first clicked on Open Disc it did show the movie, as it was reading the files, but then it wasn't listed in the contents of the folder. Under Main Movie it only had the making of.

Can anyone give us the steps they used to rip it?

As for getting movies before the street date, I worked in video rental for 13 years and always had movies before they were released. Screeners get sent out 2-3, sometimes even 4, months before the movie is released on video so that stores can decide how many they want to buy. Stores receive their stock at least 2-3 days before the street date so they can process them and get them ready to put out for rental/sale.

Also it's not illegal, as in you can't be arrested, fined, or ticketed for it, to rent or sell a title before the street date. It is against the rules and their can be penalties but they are imposed by the distributors if they find out and the store is not a big chain. No distributor is going to risk losing Best Buy, Circuit City, or Blockbuster's account because they put a title out a day or two before the street date. It's the small Mom & Pop's, if their are any still around, that would get penalized for breaking the street date.

    EXACTLY!

also, JCWBobC, are you using the VERY LATEST version of fabdecryptor? other than the dropped chapters, i had no problems ripping with fab. the pgcedit/decryptor method gave some errors, but still managed to rip it.

  26. Newest version of dvd fab decrypter just has been updated. It should fix the no chapter problem...

  27. I just downloaded the newest version, which I believe is 2.9.7.6. and downloads as DVDFab Decrypter 29. It is just weird that when I click Open Disc it shows the whole movie, while it is reading the folder, but when I look at the different folders it only shows the making of under the Main Menu folder. I couldn't even re-author it with just the movie.

I kept it for one more day so I will try again tonight and see what happens.
    Thanks

Never mind. It doesn't fix the chapter marks.

The newest version of the PSL2 Plugin for PgcEdit (released June 26) handles the latest protections (like on Ultraviolet) automatically, and makes it easy again. It's available here.

An even easier way is to use the new freeware ripping tool RipIt4Me. It was released just yesterday, and I used Ultraviolet to test it. At least on this movie, it worked perfectly. There's a thread here (at Videohelp) discussing RipIt4Me. The program is available here, and a guide for using it is available here. RipIt4Me is incredibly easy to use, and produces a superior rip of this movie. If you're having problems with Ultraviolet, you should give RipIt4Me a try.
