I've been using Virtualdub (mpeg) to create xvid clips from various sources...99% of which come from DVDR's...and I'm getting pretty good at it....good enough for YouTube anyway..
My question is...watching Virtualdub "slice and dice" my .vob's and demuxed video files so nicely....is Virtualdub an editor too?
What I've been doing is demuxing....converting the AC3 audio to .wav....then loading those two into VDub....then creating my xvids....hey...works well for me.
BUT...can I edit in VDub then keep the video "as is" without exporting/saving as .avi? If I add an AC3 decompressor(just to be able to hear the audio in Vdub)....edit where I want....then save it as the same mpeg file with AC3 audio?

Just curious....Mpeg-VCR works well for me at that task but hey....one more tool can't hurt right?

It can't direct stream MPEG video. You could try AVIDemux. Interface is similar to VDub. Has lots of built in filters, doesn't rely on VfW/ACM.
