  1. I have used Pinnacle for multiple years (only on Studio 9 as they released 10 like two weeks after I droped $250 on the "big package)

Anyway... I just upgraded my Media/Video editing system to Vista Beta 2.... and REALLY like it.

The Movie editor that came with is not too bad... but it is missing something things that I really liked in Pinnacle, such as the PIP and multiple video streams.

So has anyone heard of some applications that will have a good upgrade path to a Vista fully compatible version?

Also, are any of the applications out there that will support .WMA as the source file for editing.

IN the past I have dumped straight to DV-AVI (via WinDV... which by the way doesn't work in Vista... at least with my setup it didn't, but the updated Movie Creation will do teh EXACT same thing that WinDV did)... then used Virtual Dub to slice and dice the avi

    Pinnacle to create the "movie"
    Then TMPGEnc to encode
Then DVDLabPro to create the DVD Menu and layout....
Then Corel or Publisher to create the DVD Case... ect....

(Needless to say, I am really looking to find an "updated" way to do this)

Humm interesting enough what kind of RIG do you have?
To use VISTA 2 for editing and video capture you would need something very powerful and i think(i might be wrong) that none
system will make VISTA at full, even more for multimedia....
And to respond your question VISTA is en beta state still and i dont think software maker will support it untill the OS get mature a bit more.....

  3. I have a 2.6ghz P4; 1GB memory; 256 Radeon 9550
1TB of RAID HD Space; Pretty much has run extremely smoothly to do all of my video editing needs.

VISTA has been running like a gem on it so far. Only modest performance hicups, but I chalk a lot of that up to being a beta build.

And the Graphic Layer improvements they have done..... WOW!!! My wife walked in the other night and thought I had hooked the HD reciever up to the monitor.

End game... I will probably buy a new rig after Vista is released. But for now...

I just priced out Pinnacle 10.5, and it would cost me about $200 to get it and the FX Volume 2 package... and their are reports of people having problems with it with Vista...

So I am balancing between keeping Vista, or "downgrading" and reformationg to Media Center Edition 2005 and just waiting..
