    Hi

I have to capture some old "Top Cops" episodes from VHS to DVD format for my brother.

I have no capture card, yet I know it is possible without one.
I do have: a video card,
    VHS connected via composite cnxns,
    my PC,
    software(Virtualdub etc.)

Setting up in Virtuadub, I tried setting up my video source, but it shows no option except a blanked out 'no video source' on th pull down menu. ( 'Video-Video source-...no video source' )

Problem is I'm kinda clueless?? he-heh
    Any help? Thanks.

If you know it's possible, why can't you do it? Sorry, virtualdub is quite correct, you do not have a video source. The composite connection on your video card is to output video from your computer to a TV and not to input video.

You will need either a capture card or external USB capture device.

    Ben Boer,

If you have video in, yes. Of course you still need to setup sound too. Don't want to miss the whirring of the police cars! Woooo woooo wooooo... Sorry

I didn't look yet, but are your pc specs and video card information up to date in your computer details? Most of us could tell you pretty quick if you're setup or not to do this.
    Have a good one,

    neomaine

I've just Googled for your video card and can't find any info about it. I found a Gigabyte one with the same number and using the same chipset and that has video out but no video in. Do you have the manual or a link to the card manufacturers website?

Also...are results not better to use a seperate video capture card than your graphics card?

  9. You might consider a standalone DVD Recorder.

I agree with the DVD recorder suggestion. I'd also suggest finding out if the stuff you're trying to put on DVD is already released on DVD. Could save you a lot of work, not to mention net you results you'll never even begin to stack up to with a VHS transfer.

For vhs to dvd recorder , you will need to investigate the vhs source for macrovision .

For most problem's a video stablizer will be required ... it can also help where vhs source has deteriorated ... these problem's cause havoc to recording device's .
