  1. Hey fellas. I've just been told my dvd-rw drive might need the firmware updating and I was just wondering how I go about doing this? My drive is the Toshiba SD-R6112 and after going to this page I see this.

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1603

Which files do I need and what do I do with them? Sorry for such a basic question but I really don't wanna mess anything up.

There is always a risk in updating your firmware. That said, I have updated 4 drives multiple times with no problems. You just have to make absolutely sure that you are getting the correct firmware for your drive model, and that you don't even move the mouse or anything during the update. The only reason you should need to update your firmware, is if you are trying to make it region free, or if you are having problems with it recognizing whatever media you are buying. If it's just a media issue, I would suggest buying better media vs upgrading your firmware. There is a lot of information about firmware upgrades, etc, on www.cdfreaks.com.

  3. Or, to answer your question, I've looked at one of those downloads at random and it's got a README file that says copy everything onto a bootable disc and run the batch file.

    Seems easy enough to me.

If it works, don't fix it.

  5. I second that.

Also, if you don't know what you're doing, don't do it. Firmware is a one way trip.
