MacPAR and RAR file extraction error: looks for different parts!

Ive been using MacPar delux for a while now with no problems.

I dowloaded a file with pars and rars and wen to extract it and it said all the rars were missing but of interest there were NOT the rars that should have been connected with that set, it was looking for a different set that had not been downloaded in the que yet.

so I moved the set to a different file folder and redownloaded the file.

re did the par2 extraction and same exact result.

Ive done other extractioons successfully after these but would like to find out what the problem is. I tried to extact one of the part.rar and got a piece of the actual movie its supposed to be so some of the data is correct, but what do i do now?

its a clip that is part of a series so would like to eventually get it.

is there some error in the macPar prefs? something I have to trash and reinstall?

are you sure you have everything that should be associated together
in the same folder?
And are you sure you didn't rename any of the files?


if the Extraction says pieces are missing, either they didn't
completely download, or you have Par files in a folder with the
wrong .rar pieces, and need to move them.

Last, are you running MacPar Delexue 3.5?
if not go get that.
You can try trashing the .plist file in /library/Preferences,
and see if that helps.

yes all is as it is supposed to be.

of note is that I also inadvertenly downloaded a windows file which I rar'd andpar'd and that file on opening the FOLDER what a set of .exe. files and I dumped them

went back to that site or group and they were said to be MS virus

could that have misread only the par2 file as it seems that the troubled par2 has been relalbed into another file with the same original nane

hard to describe: "A"par2 ( and it says "A") is really "B"par2 as it looks for "B"

Ill try deleting the plist and repost

Ive downloaded the files as third time. initially the whole set was in a larger folder with other rar/par downloads. I got rid of all the ones not extracted, and put the 3d try in a new folder alone,

this time if I click the par2 it quickly verifies the files and then says they are ok and moves all except the rar to the trash. it does not look for the wrong rars and say they are missing as before.

no extraction. same if I put everyting back and click a vol....par. no extraction.

I also rebooted and got MPD 3.5 the reboot was very odd as it took 30 - 40 seconds to get the finder bar completed.

there must be some error in the par files as when I click on a sigle rar I get a partial extraction with no audio the the error message: chcecksum error (2) occured during the unrar ( only for part01.rar)

any further way to salvage the files?

MRD works fine on other downloads since.

if you are still following this thread Id like some advvice:

the file in question has been reposted. It did not say if it was re checked elsewhere to see if the par ref to the rar's worked.

Im downloadng the complete items but im currious if the errors were in the Pars as they refereed to the wrong rars, which check three times to files in the same folder that were each time differnt as the previosly offendered were removed.

Id like to check the new pars against the old rars as I know the old rars had the proper content in them as theyd extract but not join

if I try this will it ruin the pars ( if they are good working ones0 for a futher 2d extraction with the new rar?

if you know which rars go with which pars, you should put those
into a folder seperate from the others, and try to extract
using Mac Par Deluxe. if they are the correct rars then
it will extract them.

if the new Pars are looking for files with a slightly different name
or size count ( say 18mb vs 16 MB), then you will have to try the
new downloaded set.

of note the new pars worked fine with the old pars so the errors must have been in the pars
