I just downloaded the above program and I like it so far but I'm receiving an error when it goes to burn the DVD

I have a DL DVD of home videos I would like to backup.
I have the original DVD in my DVD reader and a DL blank in my DL DVD writer.

It copies the DVD to the hard drive just fine but when it goes to burn to the blank disk it brings up an error stating something like:
"Burn failed. Try changing burn engine or create an ISO file and burn with burning software."

I have tried setting the "DVD Copy Tools" burn engine to both VSO and Nero. I do have Nero installed on my system.
The help files mention using VSO if you are burning to a DL disk. I get the same error using both engines.

Can anyone shed some light on this.

Even though my writer is a DL drive would I need some special drivers to get it to recognize the DL features?
Does the DL disk need to be formatted before burning to it?

Thanks for any help you can give,
    Debbie

If it is a home video (non-copy protected) you should be able to copy it disk to disk using Nero "Copy DVD". Make sure you are using the latest version of Nero to insure drive and media compatibility. You may also want to see if you are using the latest version of firmware on your burner. Check here:

Hopefully your various burn engines aren't causing some sort of conflict with each other. You can only format DVD-RW disks not DVD-R, DVD-R, DVD+R/DL and DVD-R/DL .

You can check your media codes with DVD Identifier and see if they are on the junk list here:

Never heard of that software, and if you had to pay for it my "crapware" flag gets raised immediately. I don't know about VSO, but Nero definitely has layer break issues. Although I would've thought it would continue to burn but the problems would only become apparent on playback. DVDDecrypter ISO Read / ISO Write should work fine and should retain the original layer break.

It would almost sound to me like your burner doesn't like that brand of DL media, and that maybe a firmware update or alternatively using a different media code may be required.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Gkar - Thx for that link.

I will be looking into a firmware upgrade for the writer.
