  1. Hi, guys,

i wonder if you can help mne out here, lately my D: drive has started to give me problems, I save my Photoshop work on it but whenever I try to reopen those images, often I get a corrupted file warning:

This document was damaged by a disk error The most likely causes of this error are: a defective disk drive, a defective disk drive cable, or incorrect perypheral cable termination. Some of the pixels in this document may be invalid. Open it anyway?

Nothing physical has changed in my computer in the last few months, so Iīm pretty sure itīs a bad sector problem in my storage disk.

Iīm sick and tired of having to go back and redo work because the computer saved it in the wrong place.

Short of buying a new storrage disk do you know of any way I can make the computer stop storing my data on those bad sectors?

I've been in computers a bit, and it sounds like your D: drive is indeed going bad. The best fix would be to replace it, or save your photoshop stuff on C:. If you cannot do that, try running a "scandisk" on drive D: (be sure to turn off antivirus, firewall, etc. and disconnect from the internet first or it will never finish!) It's best to run this "scandisk" overnight when you're not doing anything else on the system, either. Scandisk will go through and mark what it feels are bad sectors so your system won't store anything there any more.

Keep in mind, scandisk is a temporary fix and may not catch all the bad sectors. The proper fix for this is to replace the drive.

  3. Thanks, CogoSWSDS, I fear that much.

Youīre probably gonna laugh, but Iīcanīt seem to be able to find the "scandisk" function on my Win Xp.

In earlier Win versions, I got used to finding it in Start ->Programs->Acesories-> System tools , but now itīs not there.

    help.....

Open up my computer til you can see the drives, right click the drive and do properties, you will see a tab for Tools Scandisk is there.

I've been having the same problem.
I'm using photoshop 7, and keep getting that exact same error message.

Here's what I've tried so far:
    1. Running scandisk - Windows said it fixed the errors, but, the files still open with errors.
    2. Formatting the drive, still when I save files to it, I get the same errors.
    3. Installed a new SATA drive. Still getting the same error, but not as often.

What's unusual, when I save to my C: drive (system drive) I don't get these errors.
I'm wondering if anyone knows if the SATA drives are causing this problem?
