I have been watching some squirrels on a streaming webcam and I am wondering if it is possible to capture the footage somehow.

Streambox VCR Suite may be a good one to start with. -
Streambox is pretty unreliable, IMO... Try SDP Downloader (http://sdp.ppona.com/) it's been a solid performer for me.
