Audio out of sync on recent dvd players?

Being an 18 year old, i dont know everything there is to know about A/V equipment. That being said, I just purchased a 27" Samsung SlimFit HDTV and bought a Toshiba SD-4990 dvd player with HDMI outputs to go with it. When thinking of how to hook it up, i immediately wanted to go with HDMI. However, HDMI cables are usually more expensive than the dvd players themselves these days, and i dont have a lot of money as a student. This being the case, i decided to purchase some $22 Philips PXT HDMI cables from Sam's. I only did this with the advice from the salesman that sold me the TV. He said the cable quality didnt really matter on smaller TV's like the one i was buying. When i got home, I installed the TV, the dvd player, and proceeded to watch a movie. However, after awhile, i noticed that the sound was out of sync with the video (the audio was heard before a character actually mouthed the words on the screen). This obviously upset me because I had just paid about $700 for something that didnt actually work.
After that, i decided to take the dvd player back and exchange it for a Philips 5960 w/ HDMI. No luck with this one either as it presented the same audio sync problems as the first one. I took this one back and found another unit made by LG (DN191H). This $120 unit didnt seem to work either and had the same problems as before. Now, I have come to the conclusion that it must be the cables causing the problem.
If anyone has any suggestions on fixing this problem, whether it be buying Monster cables, Acoustic Research cables, or whatever, please help me out. I would also like to know if Acoustic Research is that much worse than Monster. Also, any other suggestions for my problem would greatly be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have used Acoustic Research cables without issue and they are much cheaper than Monster Cables. You can always just buy a set and test them to see if it fixes the problem. If it does, great, if not, take them back.

With that said, I expect you are having an issue the TV and not the cables or DVD player.

"I can't afford to spend a lot" and "monster cables" don't belong in the same sentence or even paragraph

I'm going to start buying ofc in bulk, renaming it ultraTurboStealthBomberCarnivorousSasquatch cables and jack the price up 10x. :P

Interesting read about the sync issues with new HDTV's. I can't really afford one as I'm a poor student .

You could sit a few hundred feet away from the TV to get the proper audio delay!

Thank you all and especially you Krispy Kritter. The Acoustic Research cables seemed to have done the job quite nicely. In the future I will learn not to buy the lowest of the low end cables. $65 is well worth it if the cables actual produce high quality audio and visual like I would expect. Thanks again.
