  1. Hello,
I have a client who wants me to author a DVD-video from DLT tapes.
I have a Tandberg DLT8000 drive and tried with Gear Pro.
Tried to restore the tape content however after about 40 minutes work, the drive starts rewinding the tape and gives me an error message "error reading ansi file header labels".
I have the following 4 files in the target folder:
    control.dat
    ddvid.dat
    image.dat
    t5txt.dat

I am not sure if this files are damaged or usable and if yes, how to use them to produce DVD-video?

    I will appreciate anu suggestions.

The DVD Cutting Master consist of maximum five kind of files named DDVID.DAT, T5TXT.DAT/T5 Text Stream, VOBTBL.DAT/VOB Location Table, CONTROL.DAT and IMAGE.DAT which shall be located in this order. The file named DDVID.DAT consist of two kind of data packet named DDVID and DDVMS.

you seem to be missing VOBTBL.DAT, which is a bit of a problem unless there is no CSS..

Sounds like the tape is damaged - it might need a complete rewind .
Sometimes cleaning the heads helps -though cleaning to often a DLT head can damage it ...

The complete specs are here http://www.dvdforum.org/DVD_Cutting_Master/CMF-DVD-1.htm

If you have all the files you need- You can use GEAR Pro mastering to burn a check disk .. though at this stage - one would ussually be past this and go right to pressing ...

  3. Dear BJ_M,
Thank you very much for your reply, and the link with specs!

Missing VOBTBL.DAT seems to be not a problem, since on a paper label of DLT tape it is written - No CSS.
Also I tried to restore two of the tapes of this client, and he has much more, however the same error occurs at the same time. I can backup and restore files with windows ntbackup tool without a problem, so it is not very likely that cleaning of the heads would help.
There is something wrong as general approach I think, but still can't understand what is it.

just have them ftp the files over --

ive had problems more than once with DLT 's made on different machines ... like write on a 7000 and read on a 8000..

supposed to be compatible (4000's also are very popular) ..
