  1. im buying a dvd/vcr combo and i found these V. the 290$ one has a video DAC 10Bit and the 95$ dont. why would this make the price go up that high? is that the only thing that makes these dvd/vcr diffrenet? what it a video DAC 10Bit? also is this a good cheap dvd/vcr player Panasonic PV-D4733S DVD/VCR combo 95$

    I bet there are other features that make them different. 10 bit DAC is low end basic these days. Premium models brag about 12, 14 or 16bit DAC. The video DAC converts digital to analog in variable analog levels based on number of # of bits.

    DVD Media is encoded 8 bit but the player adds digital processing (e.g. aspect conversion, zoom to fit, video levels, etc.) that causes the bit depth to expand. In simplest terms, if you multiply a 8 bit number by a 8 bit number you get a 16 bit number. The way you truncacte that before DAC is like a rounding error. The more the rounding error, the more pixel to pixel noise at the analog level.

    The bit depth of the processing affects digital outputs as well but the DAC doesn't.

    is this dvd/vcr player out of date, or is this the best dvd/vcr player that i can get for 95$ Panasonic PV-D4733S DVD/VCR combo

    my dad has all these tapes and he wants to move them to dvd. is there any dvd/vcr player that will recored tape to dvd ? how much are they?

    See all the comments here on stand alone DVD recorders. Some can be had in that price range or a bit above.
