wmv to mp4 or 3gp

a friend of mine filmed a short video of her and some friends and saved in wmv format.. i tried to use recode2 to edit and save as mp4 so i can save it to my phone (nokia n70). everytime i try to save the file in recode2, it stops at the very same spot on every attempt i made. throughout the movie she filmed, she had added effects such as fade, splitting the screen down the middle and joining them on the next frame, some ripple, blurs, etc.. on the very stop that recode2 stops, there are some "micro line (or whatever it's called)" effect..

i don't know if those special effect is affecting me from converting and saving with recode2 or what.. if so, is there anyway to go around it or what programs can i use (freeware) to convert?

i ran into an error when it was converting.. i have no clue why.. but i was able to convert another file (.dat)..

does anyone know what is the viewing size for realplayer on the nokia n70?
