Wow this is a fantastic problem except it keep crashing on me. I set the output file to VOB DVD Compliant, change the rez to 740480 and frame rate to 29.97 (I'm NTSC). It gets about 3/4 of the way done, and then I get an error and it stops. Am I doing something wrong?

I/O error. It doesn't say anything other than that. When I load my video clip, do I have to leave it on the default output setting? Should I be converting it to something else, like DivX? Thats easy to burn to DVD.

well most anything is easy to burn to dvd - but depends on how you want to play it ...

I/O error means usually bad frame, bad file read or out of room on target drive i suspect ...

Th problem is that I dont want to lose any more quality than is actually needed. The actual clips resolution is messed up. It's something 740x5-something. And the framerate is only 25. But playing it on windows media player looks like 16:9. But opening it in Tmpgenc shows it as 11:5. What kind od of f****d format is this? What do recommedond I do as far as output and options if I want this as a DVD with a 740x480 rez, 6.1 sound AC3 sound, 40000/364kbs, 16.: aspect, and 29.97 output?

well - that makes not a lot of sense ...

you mean 720x480 with top and bottom borders - 11:5 is a film resolution ...

5.1 audio , 48,000 sample rate, 448 bitrate and 23.976 frame rate (progressive) + pulldown

super will do all this except the 5.1 audio i believe ... but if the source was 2 channel (most likely) , leave it at 2 channel ...

Well the input clip isnt 720x480. It's 720x5-something. It's some weird resolution I've never seen before. Doesn't it need to be 720x480 to be dvd compliant? Also, 11:5, I've never heard of that spect either. The movie itself plays like a widescreen in windows media player, and thats the way I want to keep it. But again, Isn't DVD compliance 16:9? That's my TV ratio, and even if 11:5 worked, wouldn't it look weird? Finally, I have an NTSC and 29.97 is standard. Wouldn't 25 be likw slow motion or choppy? Also, I thought that 3vix and divx all used 5.1 (or 6.1).

your input is pal - 720x540

your frame rate is pal - 25 fps

you are converting to ntsc and the ratio suggests to me that it is a progressive source ...

11:5 (2.2:1) is a film ratio - when you convert to 16:9 , it will have top and bottom borders - not uncommon .. or stretch it and crop it ..

ntsc is indeed 29.97 , but progressive sources are encoded to 23.976 and pulldown is added to makeit 29.97

3vix and divx do not all use 5.1 - in fact most prob. do not (who knows) , 3ivx is most likely 2 channel ... gspot will tell you ..

    so will super ..

super will convert pal to ntsc .... another very good program is divxtodvd to do this
