    I've got a radeon 9250 and for a few weeks now it will start up with odd green vertical lines on the monitor (just like those used in the Matrix movies). The odd part is it will clear up after half hour or so and be completely normal.

    I have tried installing new drivers for it but it didn't seem to do anything. Would I be better off trying to unplug the card and reinstall it?

    Suggestions would be welcome. I have tried internet searches but I don't think I'm using the right search term and I'm not getting much.

    Unplugging the card and reinstalling it can work , but you can run the minor risk that the card will not boot next time ... the problem is rare .. but still .

    If you have a second monitor to try out ... it could also be more to do with the monitor playing up .

    Are you sure you installed the "correct" video driver's for the card ... there are many package's available for each card and model's ... the difference can be so small as to be insignificant ... but then that's why some card's can have upto 8 or more different packaged version's ... so be very specific to avoid common issue's .

    How good is the ventilation and fan setup around the card ... clean out dust .

    Power supply ... make sure it is nothing less than 400watt's .

    Watch out for those pin's on the monitor connector plug to the graphic's card ... these can wear ... and I have seen them also come loose ... that's a pain to fix correctly .

    It's why all my pc's are supplied with monitor's that use seperate lead's ... in case video card lead foul's .

    Rarely , it can also be caused by incorrect memmory installed ... more to do with onboard video chipset's that share main memmory .

    ===========================

    To me , the first place to look is the monitor ... it's a common fault as monitor get's on in year's .

    UPDATE

    Well my video card must be dead. It had a VPU recovery alert and then started reseting itself. So I shut it down.

    I must buy a new video card. I don't think I can do anything else. It doesn't seem to stay active long enough to try updating the drivers again.

    Thanks for the help. I guess I just need to start over.

    UPDATE

    I went to Bestbuy this morning and bought a NVIDIA GFORCE FX 5500 256mb DDR PCI card.

    Seems to work perfectly. It was definitely the old RADEON 9250. It must have just konked out. But its nice having a clean screen again
