Officemax has a sale starting on the HP 16X Lightscribe burner at $99...

Just wondering if anyone who's had one for a while has comments on the ease/usefulness of the Lightscribe titling, reliability of the media, conflicts with internal drives/ editing softwares, y'know- the usual suspects.

I'm such a sucker for gizmos!

    How about an internal one?

    I use an HP 640i.

From somewhere else (this site or elsewhere) I have come to learn that you may want to 'burn' the label more than once to get a decent, darker image.

First time I tried it, with a simple image, I found the result to be very light - almost invisible.

It may also be a factor due to line weight of the drawings/images. The heavier and more contrast may improve the label image.
Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.)

as for lightscribe, it works ok, better if you use high contrast black and white images and burn it twice. down side is that takes about 45 minutes to do it and the lightscribe material scratches/rubs off fairly easily. as for an external drive i'd side with painkiller and go internal. too much chance of a bad burn with an external on an outside usb/firewire bus for me.
