I've just downloaded a .wmv movie. The problem is that, I cannot fast forward the movie, which means I have to watch the movie from start to finish.

I've also used the ASF Tools 3.1 to convert the movie to .avi. But when I try to convert it, it says that:

"The file used WMV2 method for video compression. Therefore the resulting AVI will not display video. You can use Recode tool to change the compression method and then return here for AVI conversion."

Then I try to recode, but it says "ERROR: Can't find encoder engine. You must install Microsoft Media Encoder 7.1". So I download the Windows Media Encoder 9 series. Then I try to Recode back and there's still an error stated "The requested video codec is not installed on this system"

I dont know whats the problem. Is there a way to solve this problem, maybe using other conversion tools or any simpler ways...????

Maybe try the Windows Media Codecs pack (available from Microsoft's site) ?

It would seem that you'll need a capable codec no matter what conversion tool you use.
    If in doubt, Google it.

The Windows Media Encoder that I've downloaded is from Microsoft site. Is there any other way to solve this problem other than converting it to .avi?

Windows Media Encoder is not the same thing as Windows Media Codecs pack

    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/format/codecdownload.aspx

Try loading into Windows Movie Maker (your profile says you are using Win XP) - this may or may not be able to "recode" to a seekable WMV file for you.
    If in doubt, Google it.
