  1. I have ripped home made DVD (from DVD based camcorder) into VOB files on my HDD. However, Premiere does not support VOB files so I used VOB2MPG to convert these files into MPG and then imported the MPG into Premiere, the problem is Premiere seems only recognize the first less then 3 minutes of a 17 minutes clip.

I've been struggling with this problem for many hours and have tried everything I can think of to no avail, please someone help me...thank you!

If the edits are simple cuts, and no fancy transitions, you would be better off using a deditcated mpeg editor such as womble.

You don't say which version of Premiere you are using. I believe Premiere Pro 2 can edit mpeg reasonably well, but earlier versions don't like it at all. You are better off converting to DV avi using virtualdub and the Panasonic DV codec.

To open MPEG2 files on Premiere I first use DGIndex to create a d2v file, then I use Vfapi Reader to make a fake-avi, which I open in Premiere without problems.

  4. Thank you very much for reply, guns1inger and Caple!! I tried both your suggestions and have found Caple's method works better - mainly because the tools are free

This solved my long struggled problem of letting Promiere to recognize my home video, thank you so so much for the help!!!

  8. Use Gspot or MediaInfo to determine what codec is used in your AVI file. Download and install that codec.

  10. All vob2mpg does is remultiplex the MPEG 2 data in the VOB file into an MPG container. There will be no difference in the video or audio quality.
