I'm going to Germany to see Sweden - Paraguay, Sweden-England, Italy-Czech....anyone else going Germany to see any matches?

I'm normally no football geek....I just like sport and when the world cup is so close to Sweden I must take the chance .

Any game that is won or lost on the best "Hollywood" done by a player to get the other player penalized is not worth watching. Not even any video refs to confirm if there was a foul..

I'll be watching on the telly. I'll wait for the World Cup to be played at Ullevi to see it live.
But I'm sure gonna watch all Swedens games, up to and including the final against Brazil, that unfortunately Sweden will lose.

  7. Look for Portugal to make another run like they did in the Euro.

I think England will tie Paraguay and lose to Sweden. If Paraguay gets lucky against Sweden and gets a point they'll bump England out.

Brazil is the clear favorite but could be in trouble if they face Czech in the 2nd round.

USA will scare the Italians and probably help knock them out. The Italians will then blame someone like they did in the Euro. Of course it will be because they have an average team but you know how that goes.

Look for Spain to disappoint again with anothe exit in the quarter finals.

I'm betting on Argentina coming in 3rd or maybe even last in their group. The Americans keep saying that Group E is the group of death which is nonsense. Group C is the real Group Of Death and the South Americans wont survive.

Just some predictions.... I'm sure NONE of them will be correct but we'll see!!!

American football originated from soccer. The rules changed the name didn't.

In eighteen seventy three, representatives from Columbia, Rutgers, Princeton, and Yale met in New York City to formulate the first intercollegiate football rules for the increasingly popular game, still being played with many of the rules of soccer. These four teams established the Intercollegiate Football Association, and set as fifteen the number of players allowed on each team.

    HISTORY OF AMERICAN FOOTBALL

Football historians, those who have studied the game and its origins, place the game’s beginnings in rugby, an English game played with many similarities to football. Rugby began in eighteen twenty-three at the famous Rugby Boys’ School in England. Another cousin of the game of football is soccer; its beginnings can also be traced to English origin, being played as early as the eighteen twenties.
So American football originated from RUGBY. They both have the same shape ball and they are both played with hands. Nothing in common with (real) football except they are both team games.

    I picked "Don't care"

My violent nature makes me lean towards sports that use weapons. Clubs and sticks and such, and that require the need for personal protection like cups, shin guards, shoulder pads and helmets. Hard balls and solid pucks and so forth. I like the contact, the battle and the offence and defence on the feild.

Soccer just kicks a little inflated ball around in the grass, where is the violence?

The viloence is in the stands and in the streets between the fans. Hmm, maybe not such a bad game after all. I may have to suit up and go check one out.

What? No Mexico? My guys at work are gonna be mad.
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?

  21. Sorry guys but I cant stand the sport. Nothing personal but I like hockey and baseball. If I had to choose it would be the host city. I just think thats the way it should be.

As an American I'd love to see the US just make the finals, but with our bracket I'll take getting passed the first round this year as an ok goal.

But for the record I'm taking Italy to win.....you heard it here....

I have to agree wiith the above......Hockey is great, then football (American NFL, no CFL or college).

    ITALIA!!!!

Did you read past the first paragraph?

At the same time, a group of students at Princeton began playing what was then known as ‘ballown’. First using their fists to advance the ball, and then their feet
Having a quick look at the wikipedia apparently both American Football and soccer have their origins in Rugby or some other form of "football". They all basically evolved from the same game. As I said the rules changed the name didn't.

Actually Rugby originated from soccer. Some guy at a school called Rugby decided to pick up the soccer ball and run with it. Hence the name of the game..
