Hi, this is my first post.

Hi, ive did a search in google about the "Invalid Sample Format" from TMPGenc 3.0 XPress. As it cause of the AC3 Filter The only method to solve it is to use VirtualDub to seperate audio and Video and then reencode back using TMPGenc.

However when importing .avi file into VirtualDub, i received this error

Couldnt locate decompressor for format 'dvsd' (unknown).
VirtualDub requires a Video For Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. Directshows videos such as that used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable. Only 'Direct Stream COpy' is available for this Video.
Can anyone help me with these?

I also having problem encoding the same .avi file using TMPGenc 2.5. It jsut hang whenever i start encoding.

For both problem rearding MPGenc i had tried disable AC3 Filter by alter the merit - not to used ac3 filter. But still didnt work.

    Help. Thanks in advance

    just search for dvsd, https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?p=1501976&highlight=dvsd+virtualdub#1501976

but it is not any ac3 problem cause your dv has no ac3.

try install the panasonic dv codec or some other dv codec and then try convert again with tmpgenc.

You can save out the WAV this way: http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/ExtractAudio.htm If my final destination is a DVD, I edit in the video in VirtualDub, then take the WAV file and run it through ffmpeggui and convert it to AC3. I put the AC3 back in when I author the MPEG-2 to a DVD after encoding the video only. I usually use VirtualDub Mod for DV, although most any version of VD will work. VDM handles the audio a little different, though.

    And welcome to our forums.

You must be using VirtualDubMod. Audio is under Streams -> Stream List.

You can export the AC3 as an AC3 file with Demux.

You can convert to PCM by right clicking on the stream and selecting Full Processing Mode, then Save WAV.

    what is it function?

and also does it does anything to my .avi file? i mean is there any effect on my .avi file?

i just wanted to extract the audio from .avi file not to seperate it.

It copies the AC3 encoded audio from your AVI file into a file with the extension .AC3. It doesn't modify your source AVI in any way.

It's not necessary but if your DVD burning software can use the AC3 file it saves you the time and quality loss that decoding to PCM and reencoding to AC3 will entail.

I also having problem encoding the same .avi file using TMPGenc 2.5. It jsut hang whenever i start encoding.
I had this problem a couple years age and sent an e-mail to tmpgenc. Hiroyuki Hori sent me back an e-mail telling me that natively TMpgEnc doesn't read type 1 DV. Only type 2 DV. You can change the priorities of the VFAPI plug-in in the environmental settings of the options menu. Increase priority of the Directshow Multimedia File Reader so TMPGEnc can read the file through directshow (if you have a directshow filter for reading type 2 DV).

If this does not work for you, and if you need to capture in a program that only captures in type 1 DV (like Pinnacle or Videowave, I think), then after you capture, convert the DV from type 1 to type 2 by use of one of the tools listed in the encoding tools section of this site:

    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Canopus_DV_File_Converter
    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=DV_Type_1_to_DV_Type_2_Converter.

    Cheers

hi geowharton, thanks for that. yes increased the directshow multimedia in vfapi to the top most but still to no avail.

anyway, how to determine what type my dv is type 1 or 2.

  15. Open your AVI file with AVICodec. If it shows only a video stream you have type 1. If it shows both a video and audio streams you have type 2.

    DV Type 1 ...

First, TMPGenc does not like type 1 dvd source files, but..

Sometimes, there's no getting around it, and you have to use it.
But, when you try to use it with TMPGenc, it can hang, randomly.

What I do is this.. if I have a type 1 as my source, and feed it
into TMPGenc, I *first* blank out the audio field and only leave
the video field filled in. This way, I can use the cut/edit that
TMPGenc offers. Then, when I'm ready to begin encoding, I exit
out of TMPGenc. I do this, because the settings are not stored.
But, once back in, I then add in the audio, and begin my encoding.
If I'm not finished with the encoding, or I stopped it for whatever
reason, I usually will exit out of TMPGenc and start again.. usually
because I have to do some editing again.

fwiw, TMPGenc has no problems with type 2 dv source files.
