  1. Do all DivX/XviD players support playback of H.264 encoded videos??
I believe with such hi-compression, AC3 audio can be incorporated into video file without any increase in filesize..

  3. H264/x264 are based around the H.264 standard - DivX and XviD are based on the H.263 standard. You require a different decoder for 264 than 263.

It will be nice when players do support x264 - I'm waiting/hoping for that before buying one.

Actually DivX is MPEG-4 Part 2. XviD is both MPEG-4 Part 2 and Part 10 (H.264/AVC), just that XviD AVC is not publically available yet. If the news about an XviD hardware certification programme is true, then I guess we will eventually see XviD AVC certified players, just as we will see Nero Digital AVC certified players.

I purchased this thing a few days ago and should be here in the beginning of next week. It says its supported on both the nero site and their own site. A great deal as well.

From what i read it plays everything but the quarter pixel xvid. I dont use that so its no biggie. Nero digital will do it all for me.

  6. I'm pretty sure the Avayon player plays MPEG4 part 2 in AVI and MP4 (Nero Digital) containers. But it will not play h.264 (MPEG4 part 10) encoded video.
