I have recently download a movie and wanted to add a chinese subtitle to it. I have try using the guide by Baldrick on permanent subtitle to a video with virtualdubmod but it seems that the program was not able to read the subtitle and instead of the chinese subtitles all I got was funny signs instead. I try opening the subtitle file (.srt) with Subtitle workshop but it could not read the subtitle either? it there any programs i can download so that i will be able to read the chinese subtitles?

You need to make sure the proper codepage was selected in TextSub filter or whatever VOBSUB version you used.
Subtitle Workshop DOES support Chinese if you pick a Chinese font with the proper codepage selected (it's language selection, not codepage, in the program itself, under settings, I think) I know since I've gotten a few lines of dialog in Rambo II into Chinese as a test. It takes a bit of setting up, but it is quite possible.
EDIT: I found my old thread...
So you see, it DOES support Chinese, if you got something like NJStar installed. You can't se the video because that's displayed in Overlay mode, which the screencap software doesn't catch, but it's there.
