i'm backing up old tv shows on divx format and i don't know a way to deinterlace them to be viewable in any computer. is there a best deinterlace method to clean my capped videos other than blend and bob?

You could do a search for 'deinterlacing' and see what comes up. I usually use VirtualDub Mod for Xvid conversions . Most of the time I use the Smart Deinterlacer filter. You can get it at: http://neuron2.net/

Yeah, Don Graft's Smart Deinterlace filter is probably the best VDub deinterlacing filter:

If you use AviSynth, then (Leak)KernelDeint and TDeint are probably the best that don't slow the encoding too much:

In my opinion, both blend and simple bobs (by which I guess you mean tossing out one field and interpolating the other to full resolution) look pretty bad. -
If your source was film based you might be able to inverse telecine. That would be the best deinterlace method.

My source is DVD interlaced from 4:3 normal TV. The deinterlace results are always unnatural like a robot movie with bob and ghosty with blend.

The clip has field blending, which is always difficult to deal with.
This is what I would use:
avisource("interlaced_video.avi")
leakkerneldeint(order=1,sharp=true,twoway=true,thr eshold=6)
It looks tolerable when played at normal speed. -
Yep, field blended trash. Converted from PAL in a way I've never seen before, often with double and triple blending. Nothing can fix it, but in my opinion here's the best way to handle it:
LoadPlugin("C:\Path\To\LeakKernelDeint.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\Path\To\RePAL.dll")
AVISource("C:\Path\To\interlaced_video.avi")
LeakKernelBob(Order=1)
RePAL()
I'll put up an XviD of the results shortly.
Edit:
Here's an XviD of the results. It's RePAL.avi and a little under 9 MB:

I think what happened was that it was originally shot as PAL 25fps interlaced and then blend deinterlaced. This now blended source was then converted to NTSC and further blended. Just a guess. -
It's recorded interlaced with my PVR, burned on a DVD+RW media and ripped on the hard drive. Now I want to convert all that shit to a 700MB CD, but I can't achieve the same quality as other tv ripped shows available on the internet. The result is always "ok" with no movement scenes but crappy with cars moving and ppl walking around. I'm trying all the deinterlace methods but still can't find one to make perfect movies. For example, you can rip the Matrix movie and burn it to a CD and it's always perfect but you can't do the same thing with your own home made tapes because interlaced artifacts looks terrible on a PC.

Hi-

That doesn't contradict anything I said about its possible source.
...I can't achieve the same quality as other tv ripped shows available on the internet.
US made TV shows aren't victimized by bad standards conversions (PAL2NTSC or vice-versa). Nor are they shot on interlaced video. They're filmed for the most part. They don't have that video look.
I'm trying all the deinterlace methods but still can't find one to make perfect movies.
Well, I don't think that one is a movie, but a TV video. If it is a movie, it was made on a shoestring and they used video cameras. Deinterlacing isn't the way to go with that one for best results. Did you even download and look at the XviD I made. It plays smooth as silk, and unless you know what to look for, it's hard to even see the remaining blends. When you capture movies, you don't deinterlace them anyway. You IVTC for best results. Then you too can have results like the big boys on the Internet. -
Also keep in mind that you have 30 fps (unless you can IVTC) with stuff you record off TV, but usually only 24 fps when ripping a DVD. So you need 25 percent more bitrate right off the bat.
With DVD rips you probably don't keep the full 720x480 frame size. You probably reduce a wide screen movie to something like 640x360 or 640x272. Whereas your TV recordings are likely to be at 640x480 or somesuch. The smaller the frame, the less bitrate you need.
Video recorded off TV will usually have more video noise than a DVD rip. Noise eats up bitrate. The more noise you have the higher a bitrate you'll need.
