I am planning on capturing some video countdowns from 2 VHS tapes, and then combine the two AVIs and convert to DVD with VSO divix to DVD. Instead of just watching the countdown from beginning to end I would like to create menus possibly for every video, or at the very least create two menu options that will allow me to start at the beginning or middle.

After looking around the forum it seems that DVDAuthorGui might be the best for me since I only want simple menus. Do I create the menus while the files are in AVI format or do I create the menus after the AVIs are converted to DVD?

If possible does anyone have a basic listing of steps for this process?

    thanks

As I understand it, the menus are made during the "authoring" process. Encode the video files, then when you go into DVDAuthorGUI to author the DVD, that's when you make the menus.

To get you started, there's info at the DVDAuthorGUI Readme page:
    https://www.videohelp.com/~liquid217/dlfiles87/readme.html
    and here:

(FWIW, I've made a *really* simple menu, just once, in DVDAuthorGUI. It worked using the above links and some trial-n-error, but I don't recall enough of the details to help much, sorry. Don't be afraid to dive right in and try )

  3. Encode the video files, but use elementary streams as output.
Video should be mpeg2, Audio either mp2 or AC3 with 48 kHz!
