  1. Hi all,

I've got a large AVI file and want to rip the sound to WAV.

Is there a good tool to do this?

thanks for any info you can give me.

VirtualDub will often rip audio to a file named ".wav" while leaving it in its original compressed format. You then need another program to convert it.

The difference is "Direct stream copy" vs. "Full processing mode"

If you don't have the necessary decoder installed it makes no difference whether you use "Full processing mode" or not.

  7. If you don't have the necessary decoder, you install it. Otherwise the Full processing would throw an error.

You can also try AVI2WAV. I'm not sure if it handles all audio codec formats, though, such as AC3.
