    Hi everybody!

Recently, I changed my old hard disk (60 Gb) and ram stick on my Celeron based PC for new ones (120 Gb and 2x512 Mb). Then I put the old HD into an ad-hoc box with USB 2.0 to use it as an external drive for storing digital video and audio. It worked OK, because I was able to store big m2v/ac3 files (4 or 6 items about 2 Gb each). I was able to copy them to the HD, to process them with Cuttermaran 1.66 and to store the result back to the external drive. But (I do not know why) I am getting into troubles as my system (Windows XP Home SP2) says this device could work better if plugged to a high speed USB port (the four USB ports in my PC are 2.0) and it stops copying from external drive to HD. I tested the external drive in other computers (two: Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Proffessional) and it worked OK. Can be my system which is mad? What can I do?

The USB2 drivers are not configured properly. Try re-installing your USB2 drivers.

    Thanks waheed!

But HOW? You know, I do not dare to put my nose near the OS and the stuff involved. Do you mean through the Windows XP install disk?

Start by Right-clicking on My Computer and selecting Manage from the menu. When the dialog opens, click on Device Manager.

Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers tree, then delete everything in it, one at a time. If you have a USB mouse, you will loose your ability to control it. Once they are all gone, reboot and let windows reinstall everything. It shouldn't ask for your original disc.

    Thanks guns1inger!
I will give your instructions a try this evening (Spanish time) at home, as now I am at work with my Company computer.

Test it there. Isn't a company computer just like a company car ? Capable of anything . . .

    OK. Maybe not.

Since your computer is quite old as listed in your profile are you sure your USB ports are USB2.0 and not USB1.1? You can use USB2.0 devices in USB1.1 ports but you will get the warning you are receiving by doing so.

  8. You should check whether you have any USB2 Host Controller under USB. If not, then you USB ports are 1.1, and not 2.0.

Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers in Device Manager one of them should include the word "Enhanced," and you only have USB 1.1 if "Enhanced" isn't seen there.

    Hi everybody!
Thanks to all that posted to my problem. Really, I have "Enhanced" Universal Serial Bus Controllers. I tried guns1inger suggestion, but it did not work. I have been advised to re-install my OS. Probably, my PC went into hibernation by mistake and something got corrupted (that's what some 'guru' friends have told me). I am afraid I will have to do so!
Regards from the sunny (and hot) Spain.
