  1. I looked up via a google the phrase mov to avi
and got a link back here for Rad Tools.

I got the rad tools. the rad tools exe file at the
desktop only opens the installer. What is the file
name to start the program? I see bink files and others
in the rad folder but not as described in the guide.

    Weird.

I have tool on the home computer (I'm at work right now), but Rad Video Tools web site may help:
    http://www.radgametools.com/binkhlp2.htm
    and
    http://www.radgametools.com/binkhcon.htm

Those two screen shots look familar from my last use of the tool

Be aware, at least in my experience, that the AVI output might be limited to 2GB (I had this "issue" even though I'm on XPSP2 and NTFS file system (shrug)). Never got a reply from the Rad folks about this, so I just convert in <2GB chunks. A bit more of an effort, but still worked.

    Hope that helps,
    Jim

    Glad you found it.

  6. Most recent effort at this gave a bad result.

    I have a 1 hr 9 minute file called an .mov\\which loads
    in real alterantive to play

Using rad with just clicking on convert and go
do it, the routine starts but quits before it is completed.

The progress box shows the mov being converted to
avi but it just quits after about 5-6 percent.

    What additional settings are necessary?

I have no idea what bink it, or spank it means in the
    program.

Whoever designed the program should be spanked.

    An alternative would be appreciated.

Well, like I said, it's been a while since I've used the tool, but from memory when you are at the first screen I linked to above (binkhlp2.htm), select the video you want to convert and press the "Convert a file" button. Then you should be presented with the second screen I linked (binkhcon.htm).

What I found I had to do was use the "Frame range" settings in order to keep the result under 2GB. Otherwise I'd end up with an unwatchable file. I believe that was the extent of the settings I used (if I have a chance tonight, I'll fire it up and see if there's anything else I did).

    Hope that helps,

  8. Am I getting it yet?

I'm redoing the object file which is an .mov
    with Bink!.

The compression routine now looks like it is
doing a longer run (at about 3 hours worth.)

the target file is a .bik

Is this file then converted to the desired .avi
after it is compressed to 2G or whatever.

Is it working like DVD Shrink?

Must the object file be converted into the
target file format with the 'convert' button?

  9. Well it appeared that my object file was 1.4.

The resultant .avi file (if I'm not totally confused
by now) could not be found by Nero -- would not
load into a get file window for burning as I'm
accustomed to doing with other downloads.

The error said could not load file or something,
but it is clearly marked as an .avi.
