It would be helpful if you told us what model # your LITEON dvd burner is.

I left a blank dvd-r in my Lite-On SHM-165H6 when I shut my computer down. I had forgotten all about it. When I wanted to burn the dvd the next day, dvddecrypter could detect no blank media, and neither could Nero. It was then I remembered the blank had been in the drive when the computer powered up. I did a restart, it has to be a restart, then it worked fine.

Try a restart, with no disk in drive, then see if it will recognize the drive. If this fails, check Device Manager to see if Windows is reporting a problem.

The two most common reasons for this is a dirty laser lens in the drive or a drive is becoming bad. As a first step, try cleaning the laser lens. If that doesn't help, invite a few close friends over and say a few words of kind remembrance over the drive and bury it.

The initial blinking that you see when you insert a disc in the drive is called Optical Power Check (OPC). During the OPC, the drive is checking the media for various things including reflectivity, MID etc. If the test does not pass, the drive indicates no media. When a laser is dirty or starting to fail, the OPC starts to fail more and more frequently.

  6. I have to agree with SCDVD. I had a stand alone player that was doing the same thing and a good cleaning fixed it.

By using the tool called LtnRPC. Here's the link for the download and instructions on how to use it.

You also need DVD REGION KILLER to fool your operating system. Here's the download:

It's strange, but when a laser starts to fail in a burner, it seems to have trouble with the OPC on replicated DVDs before it does on recordable media. I have had this happen on two burners. The first was a Pioneer 2X burner a couple of years ago and more recently the same thing happened on a BTC 1108.

I had this problem, It would read any DVD that was burned. Plus Minus Dual Layer... didn't matter, any Burned disk would read. But any commercially produced movie or DVD would sit and spin and the drive letter would read DVD-RAM.

I tried older archived Firmwares along with Newer ones and nothing worked. Then someone suggested that I open my case and change IDE cables (and IDE channels). When I opened it I saw that I had left the two right hand screws off the mounting bracket and the drive was ever so slightly leaning to the right.

I put the two screws in, booted the computer, and inserted my test DVD- IT WORKED! I ripped it to my HD so I can make a backup DiVx of it, then I tried another DVD, didn't work... went back to the first... didn't work. This is crazy.

I just bought one of those 18x spd Liteon burners. I'll see how it works when I return home from vacation. If you want a good dvd burner get a Pioneer 111D or the 710 which is a retail of the 111D. Too bad cuz Best Buy had it for $30.00 last friday and sat.
