somehow, after one of the wonderful windows updates were applied, the text on two of my PC's is different. it is not "SHARP', has a slight blur to it as well as web pages.

is there an adjustment for this? i use to know where it was but can't find it. i use to go to folder options, view, and their was a check box for "smoothing or shading".....

if any one know i would greatly appreciate some help!!!

    Thanks...DL

Its for LCDs regardless of connection. Mine is a LCD connected via analog (VGA only, no DVI), and Cleartype works perfectly on my LCD.

A tip I use for CRT displays is to set the video refresh rate a little higher than 60Hz (Or 50Hz PAL) if your card will permit it. 75Hz works well with most displays. This often results in a clearer looking display. This doesn't seem to do anything for LCD displays but the 'Clear Type' setting helps there.

It has to be "tuned" for your display's characteristics and only works properly when driving the display at its native resolution.

It does help a little with my laptop LCD display. You can use this MS 'tuner' to adjust it: http://www.microsoft.com/typography/cleartype/tuner/Step1.aspx

It's basically a font smoothing process. If you use it with a CRT display, it may make the text look 'fuzzier'.

EDIT: Looks like jagabo typed faster.
