welp, i read the tutorial about merging avi

    http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/virtualdub_procedures.htm

and after the 2nd step trying to select the avi file, it gives me this error:

Cannot append segment: the video steam have different formats.

after that i tried with a different avi , another error:

Cannon append segment: the video steam use imcompatible compression types.

how do u fix this? i need help asap i need for a school project!

  2. Hi-

Unfortunately, you can't easily fix it. To join AVIs, both have to be of exactly the same type, have the same resolution, audio, audio sampling rate, etc., etc.

If one is DivX and the other XviD, for example, you can reencode one to the same codec as the other. If one is of a different resolution from the other, it can be reencoded to the same resolution. You can check the AVI properties in something like GSpot and see exactly what the differences are, and then decide whether or not you want to try and fix them. Unless you're pretty experienced, this can be kind of tricky.

One thing you can do, although it may not help you, is to set up a playlist using a player that supports playlists, like BSPlayer. Then you don't actually join them, but one will play right after the other.

  4. Encode them all separately and join them when authoring.

  6. Hi-

well im trying to make into a dvd right ,

How were you going to do that, if you don't know how to encode or author? In this case, instead of encoding one video, you'll be encoding multiple videos. Same principle. There are a ton of guides listed in the guides section. I'd suggest you start reading, perhaps the What Is DVD page linked over on the left.

You can always use avisynth to append the streams. It doesn't care if they aren't alike, as you can resize, resample etc as required before outputting a single, joined stream.

It's more complicated than vdub the first few times, but not impossible.
