  1. Trying to see if I can make my first working VCD before I buy a capture card...

Used TMPGEnc to make a VCD MPEG(used the NTSC VCD template) and burned to a CD using Nero(used the VCD template). Both Nero and TMPGEnc claim the file is MPEG-1 compliant, but after the CD is burned and played using Power DVD, all I get for video is scrambled purple. Oddly, the audio comes out perfectly. So I went back to the MPEG file that both Nero and TMPGEnc said was 352x240 and opened in Windows Media Player. WMP plays the file fine and says it's 640x480(the dimensions of the original AVI).

I've tried this with the same results on 2 MPEG files and an AVI file.

So far I've burned about 6 coasters. I've read every how-to on the site at least twice in the last 2 days, plus other sites, but still no progress... Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  2. First, get a CDRW and use that for testing, why waste CD's, it may be cheap, but it's still a waste.
Secondly, this is something alot of people tend to do, have you loaded the VCD Template in TMPGEnc AFTER you opened your AVI ?
Lastly, I suggest you check how it plays on a diffrent PC, and if possible even a DVD Standalone.

  3. Just in case anyone was wondering...

I dug up a CDRW disk, and got VCD to work on my standalone Zenith DV 2201 player after using the hack posted here. It will play RW disks, but not CDR. The player also seems to not play SVCDs either.

Still no luck on playing either type on my PC with Power DVD, but I plan on trying a program.
