Hello. I have a a few .ts files which my IO Data Avel Link AVLP2/DVDG network media player cannot play. I have thought about a firmware update but it seems quite a minefield with this company. So, I have been re-encoding them to MPEG2 with HDTVtoMPEG2 trying to keep the file size as big as possible. My question is: does this affect the quality/resolution of the files. Is it lossless? I don't want to burn to DVD but keep maxiumum quality for viewing in hi def. Thanks...

    dastott,

If you change the file extention from .ts to .mpg the LinkPlayer2 will play them without problem.

Using HTDVtoMpeg2 creates another file with no loss of resolution and is about the same size as the original .ts file.

How does LinkPlayer2 know which PIDs to decode? Does it work only for single program transport streams?

If the whole transport stream is captured, the LinkPlayer2 will default to the first sub-channel.

I capture using 'sub-channel only' which also makes for smaller file sizes.
