I just purchased a pioneer DVR-111D to replace my Plextor PX-708A burner. So far, good and bad results, maybe media related, or hardware related, not sure at this point. With my plextor, I could burn basically anything on nero or dvd decrypter with no problems. Now with my new Pioneer, I try to burn a dvd in dvd decrypter using Philips (CMC MAG-E01-00) Media and I get the "Failed to Write Sectors 141920 - 141951 - Invalid Address For Write" anytime I try to burn any dvd. I figured this was a media problem, but I tried the same media in Nero (6.6.1.4) and it burns with no problems. I also tried OPTODISC-OR8-00 media with the same problem in decrypter, but was able to successfully burn it in Nero. I guess I could live with burning in nero, but id much prefer to burn with dvd decrypter or imgburn, and I dont like the fact that now I cant with this burner.

So I was wondering, is this just a problem in windows, hardware, or media? I did a new firmware upgrade. I also checked that its running DMA (Ultra DMA mode 4) which it is. This is quite an annoyance, and ive noticed ive lost some speed on my comp as well, it runs slower then with the other drive like its bogging it down. When I burn I also dont do anything in the background, and I end task all unwanted programs.

    Anyone have any ideas?

CMC & OPTODISC are not the best dvd media to use. Try using TAIYO YUDEN or VERBATIM media.

I just bought the Pioneer DVR-111D from the Best Buy sale. I flashed the drive to the Dangerous Brothers 111L 8.19 firmware which allows Single Layer DVD+R media to be booktyped to DVD-ROM. There is Pioneer official 1.19 as the latest firmware for the drive. Check out the PIONEER FORUM at Cdfreaks.com to post your question there as well.

Ya I have the new 1.19 firmware, but I know those medias arent very good, but shouldnt they have failed on both decrypter and nero for that matter. I'll try to get ahold of some other media, but im guessing there is an issue with decrypter and my drive.

BTW, is it worth getting the firmware that you have?

For me it's worth it because I use DVD+R media with my other drives. One of my dvd player' that is capable of playing back DVD+R media but for some reason it upchucks with DVD+R media that isn't booktyped to DVD-ROM. But if I use a DVD+R disc that is booktyped to DVD-ROM it plays back perfectly fine. By only using the official PIONEER firmware booktyping to DVD-ROM is not capable for single layer discs but it is for dual layer discs. For the booktype to DVD-ROM it can only be done by flashing the drive as described below.

If you're planning on flashing the drive to the DANGEROUS BROTHERS firmware I suggest you go to the PIONEER FORUM at Cdfreaks.com on how to flash your drive. Did you buy your PIONEER 111D from the Best Buy sale? Or is it just a OEM drive purchased from a online retailer?

If it's from the Best Buy sale take a look at this thread:
    Crossflashing PIONEER 710 to a DVR-111
    http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=181457

To crossflash I had downgrade the firmware by downloading the TDB 111 1.06 firmware, the TDB 111 1.19 firmware & TDB 111L 8.19. Flash the drive with the TDB 111 1.06 firmware then reboot pc when the flashing is done. Then use the exe of TDB 111 1.19 to flash the drive with the 111 1.19 firmware then reboot the pc when the flashing is done. Then use firmware TDB 111L 8.19 to flash the drive then reboot when it's done. Your drive is now region free and DVD-RAM capable. You could also have labelflash as well depending on your nero version that you're using.

There should be more info previous to the "Failed to Write....." statement. Something like this:

Error shows up at 46% complete using DVD Decrypter
    I/O ERROR
    Device: (1:1:0) pioneer dvd-rw dvr-111 1.19(ata)
    ScsiStatus:0x02
    Interpretation: Check Condition
    CDB: 2A 00 00 0F A3 20 00 00 20 00
    Interpretation: Write (10) – Sectors: 1024800-1024831
    Sense area: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0E 00 00 00 00 21 02 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
    Interpretation: Invalid address for write

Could you post that info? Usually those type errors are media related but I can't explain why Nero works. Are you burning at the same speed with both programs? Try slowing those E01's to 4x or 6x in dvd decrypter and see if the problem still exists. Good luck.

Ya there was more to the error, similiar to what you posted, unfortunetly I havent tried burning again as I dont want to waste more disks. As for the burn speed, I tried lowering it from 8x to 4x in decrypter, but it burns just fine at 8x in nero. I'll be sure to try another burn here pretty soon and if the problem happens again, i'll post the rest of the error. Otherwise im thinking of flashing my burner to the 111L. And btw, I didnt buy it from best buy or online, I bought it from a computer store (Computer Depot) in San Diego.
