    hi,
I have never found one difinitive resolution to this problem but whenever I put a lot of video on a DVDR using nerovision (for example 6 or 7 45min tv episodes in extended play mode) they gradually get more and more out of synch as the episode progresses. WHen it changes to the 2nd episode/chapter it is perfectly in synch again, but 20 mins later its progressively getting worse. The original AVI's are fine.
    any ideas?

You haven't looked very far, if you haven't found an answer. It's a common problem, and gets discussed here several times a week.

There are two common causes of sync problems - format conversion (PAL -> NTSC or NTSC -> PAL), and VBR MP3 source audio. Your problem is probably the latter, and Nerovisio, like many programs, doesn't like it very much.

You have a couple of choices.

    1. Try using ConvertXtoDVD, which usually copes with VBR MP3 audio (although even it can get lost sometimes)

    2. Use Virtualdubmod to save the audio out as either CBR MP3 or wav, and then either mux it back into the video, if Nerovision can only take avi files, or simply load it as the audio to be used.

Detailed instructions on how all this can be done can be found by using the search functioon for VBR MP3 audio.

definitive solution = try something else like convertxtodvd or convert with a separate encoder like tmpgenc xpress and author with tda.

That is the very reason I stopped using Nerovision and switched over to tmpgenc xpress. I found that tda created better menus, too.

tmpgenc express will create mpg2 files, and these you import into tda, or some other authoring program.

A side note. When I tried to import the mpg2 files into Nerovision 3, it threw a fit and would not accept them.

i used convertxtodvd and found that the file it created was 6gig. could not see an option to limit it to 4.7 so this was not the answer for me. also didnt seem I could create menus with that program.
I will try the others now.

Did you use DivxtoDVD (the freeware program) or ConvertXtoDVD (payware) ?

ConvertXtoDVD has a lot more control, including size and quality contraints, as well as rudimentary menu creation. It is best used to encode Divx/Xvid material to then be imported into something like TDA for authoring.

I thin ki used DivxtoDVD actually..
i was amazed by the amount of time that tmpgenc xpress took to encode. 8 hours for 8 tv episodes! crazy..

That seems about right. On my system, it typically takes twice the amount of time as the video file. If the video file is 90 mins, it takes about 3 hrs. I just let it run while I'm sleeping.

I have a 3.2 GHz P4 and 1 gig RAM. The files are on 2nd HD.

does anyone know any good alternatives to tmpgenc xpress? My pc seems to have problems with it. I'll continue to use tmpgenc dvd author 1.6 to author but need a new encoder... quick!

guys please help ive spent 6 hours in the blazing heat trying to find a decent encoder. I just tried main concept and once again the synching is not good enough. can anyone advise of a cheap or free encoder or all in one encoder and authoring package to put me out of my agony! something that allows background music on the menus and encodes without losing a load of quality or going out of synch.
    argh
