  1. Hi,
I have a video whose technical details is as follows:

    Video Compression: Divx Codec (.avi)
    Resolution: 624x272
    Audio: 128Kbps (Lame MP3)
    Total Video File Size: 700MB

Now I would like to make VCD so that I can view the movie (its a home video) in my standalone DVD player which unfortunately can not play DivX codec. I tried to use nero to write it as a VCD but the size is beyond the capacity of 1 disk. So how can I make a VCD out of it?
Moreover I am not sure whethere the video is PAL or NTSC but my player supports PAL only. If the file is in NTSC can it be converted to PAL?
    Please help
    Thank you

If the framerate is 29.970 or 23.976 then it is NTSC. If the framerate is 25, it is PAL. VCD is limited to around 74 - 80 minutes per disc. What is the running time of your video ?

I am assuming you do not have a DVD burner, otherwise you would convert to DVD instead.

Use gspot 2.52b to get the details you need. Post a screenshot of it's output here.

You will not fit it all on one VCD. You will have to find an appropriate place in the film to split the file ito two, then encode each seperately. The simplest tool to do this is probably virtualdubmod. You can load up the video, select the section you want, and save it out as a new video without re-encoding by using Direct Stream Copy mode. Repeat for the other other half. You can then use Nero on these seperate files to create your two VCDs.
