    Hi,

I have just burnt some white top CDs after printing on them using my Epson 210 and for the firest time I am seeing strange crack like lines eminating from the middle out towards the outer rim like a 'sun' effect.

The CDs play okay so far in the players I have tested them in, but would like to know more about this if oddible.

The CDS are for sale so don't want purchasers having problems with them.

Is this a warranty problem, or my LiteOn 40x12x48 CDRW burner?

    Thanks

  2. I have used my Epson R200 for about 18 mths and have never had any issues. What make of CD are you using? You mention that you burnt them after printing. I always burn first then print. Have you tried buring first? Are the cracks on the top (white surface) or the bottom (burn surface)?

Not sure if this is the problem but ...

You should ALWAYS burn first ... then print or write or label the CD/DVD disc.

Never the opposite ... which is what you are doing ... so that might be the "trick" there for you.

The lines that you are seeing are from your inner hub setting being set too small, so it is laying down ink on the non-printable (non-white) surface at the inner hub. It takes a lot longer for the ink to dry on this surface than it does on the printable part. Then when you stick it in the burner, the spinning motion sends the ink outward across the disc like a centrifuge. Next time you print one, look closely at the inner hub and you'll see where the ink is sitting in tiny pools. If you dob it with a tissue, the ink will come up. Burn then print and you'll avoid this, or mess around until you get the hub setting right. Although, I don't like the idea of ink flying around inside my burner.

They are a cheapie brand called "Melody' yet I have used hundreds b4 without problem.

I see why now.. I for some strange reason I did it backwards. Doh!!!

There is nothing wrong with your discs. It's from playing/burning before the ink was dry. Burn first then print. Then let the ink dry before use. You can recreate the problem by burning then printing then playing right away.
