    After working on a dvd that required pretty specific chapter markers and burning it to a dvd, the chapters are a few seconds off when I play it. I've tried it in two different dvd players and my pc, and get the same result every time. Is this common, or do I have something set wrong in DVD Architect?

    Thanks

    I'm not familiar with DVD Architect, but hopefully my "general" advice may rule a few things out.

    Any authoring software worth its salt should only allow you to set chapter markers on I frames. It is then the responsibility of yourself and your encoder to ensure that I frames occur exactly where you want the chapter stops to go.

    So the first thing I would do is confirm that your chapter stops are on I frames. The GOP settings (length, and open or closed) you used whilst encoding may also provide some hints.

    Purely for the purposes of confirming/denying that it is the software or the source (I understand that you're using DVD Architect for a good reason), how about DL-ing some other authoring software, setting a couple of chapter points in the same spots and see what the output does ? I'm only suggesting this because if the same behaviour occurs, then it's the source material. If it's fixed, then DVD Architect is causing the problem.

    It should at least help you narrow down the problem.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    I've tried encoding with both Vegas and TMPGEnc Xpress, both with the same result. It's only off by a few frames, but it's a few frames late, which is cutting off the front of my intended chapter starting points.

    @jimmalenko:

    I'm still pretty green at dvd authoring, so I'm not sure what you mean by I Frames and GOP settings. I'm going to search around on this site and google to get a little more info, but in the meantime, do you have any suggestions for other authoring programs I could try?

    Thanks everyone for the replies.

    *EDIT*

    Ok, so I tried using DVD Lab to author the DVD and while importing the video, it told me that I had open GOP's and that can cause chapters to not start properly, so I guess that's the cause. I'll try re-encoding, hopefully that'll fix the problem.
