I've tried to remove the marcrovision region free setting as one of my players only plays region 1 DVD's. But, when I view the DVD info after ripping it shows it's region free. I've tried this a few times and made sure that I had selected region 1. Any ideas? I've managed to do it OK with DVDDecrypter but not dvdshrink.

There are two ways to set a disc to be region free. You can set it to be region 0 - which is the official region free designation, or do as shrink does, which is set all regions.

Region 0 should work on all compliant players, as it is an official designation, and there are region 0 commercial releases available.

Setting a disc to all regions should also work on all compliant players, as the region that the player is locked to has been selected.

Are you saying that your region 1 player will not play a disc that has all region selected (the default in DVD Shrink)

Yes, I've tried ripping and burining all sorts of different ways but the ony way I got one to work was keeping the region as 1.

It looks like DVDShrink has an bug and will not override the all regions setting?

Looks like your player has a bug and isn't DVD compliant.

You should be able to override this with PGCEdit after Shrink has done it's shinking thing.

Can't use decrypter on an already ripped and processed disc. I think the OP is saying that even if decrypter takes the region code off, shrink puts it back on.

    Hi sawbo1:

I also have a region-1-only standalone DVD player. When I used DVD Shrink, I always set the DVD region code as Region Free (see attached picture). All my discs play fine in my DVD player.

Mount the dvdshrink created image under daemon tools, then use decrypter to patch back to region 1. I know its circuitous but it is simple to do.

That's how I normally burn mine but in my car dvd player it seems to only play those set for region 1.

I used DVDFabDecrypter on one and set to region 1, it worked fine. But some movies are large and I need to shrink them too. If I use DVDShrink it will set to all regions automatically even if I select just region 1. That's what I'm finding anyway.

Car DVD player? Oh, I think we are dealing with another kind of problem.

My brother has a car DVD player. I made for him some DVDs which play fine in all of his standlone players. But his car player just refuses to play all of them.

    Good luck!
