I am trying Nero 7 to see how it works. but, when I load it I get the following:

    Unable to Register C:\Program files\common files\ahead\dsfilter\nedvd.ax
    A DLL Initilzatiobn Routine failed Error=1114 Facitlity=7

IS this a win98 error or a Nero error?

    Is NEdvd.ax a necessary file?

Yet, it seems that Nero works.

    How do I fix it?

    What can be wrong?

What did Ahead support have to say?
If you're still using Win98 - well, does anything work on that anymore?

I have no idea since they are the last people to ask about NERO problems.

I am STILL waiting for an answer from them to a question I posted 3 weeks ago

Just because Win98 is not the lastest-greatest thing does NOT make it worthless

I would be just as happy with my old Win 3.11 then anything Bill Gate$ can come come up with.

But, since the computer elite thinks newer is better then I know that next year I will be forced to go to either WinXP or WinVista (that is if Microsoft can get the bugs out first ).

It's not as much what the "computer elite" thinks, as what the software companies have in mind when they develop their products. Developers just like the latest greatest platform, and all support there is for older platforms is an afterthought. It's fun to do new stuff. It's boring to make sure it works on an old system

Sloved the problem of the failed Nedvd.ax file

All I had to do was to compleatly remove NERO 7 and reinstall it WITHOUT its DVD player.

It seems that maybe it did not like it that I already had Ulead's DVD player on my system.

(in case you are wondering: it was easier to not install NERO DVD player then to uninstall Ulead's DVD player)

However, I still think that there is somekind of bug in NERO 7 (with or wit-out its DVD player). For when it comes to previewing (especially DVD's) before burning. The Preview function don't work! You do get the menu preview to work, but, when you try to play the movie that the menu points to - nothing (if your lucky). For sometime, Nero Vision stops, dissapears, and a "Nerovision has commited a fatal error at..." window pop-up. And on top of that if you try to remove it - the systeme freezes.

I hope that maybe someday NERO will have a patch, but I won't hold my breath

IMO, Nero is one of the most bug-ridden software ever released. And I actually think I can hold my breath between new versions/patches. I don't think any other software is so frequently updated. The problem is, they seem to introduce more new bugs in every new version than it fixes, in an endless loop.
My hope, is that they one day get their act together, and actually released a reasonably bug free version, as the features Nero claims to have are impressive - the sad thing is that most of them don't work (reliably).

Well, There go the "myth" of German Engineering

However, as for the problem of not getting a preview to play in Nero vision?

I may have (again) spoken too soon

It seems that if the "audio format" option under DVD-Video in the Video Option pop-up under "application options and setting" located under the "more" button is not set to Automatic (or a audio format supported by you sound card(?)) the video won't play

Leave it up to Nero to have a video bug that has an audio solution.
