You really should delete all those posts.

The links could go to a site with virus/spyware, and it also helps whoever owns that site by giving them linking (as will be indexed by google).

You will get much more mileage by reporting the site advertise in the spam so it cam be shut down. The link posted in these spams redirects to a gambling site, www.TOP CASINO10.COM. (I deliberately made the link non-clickable.) Please email abuse@cais.com and cc: abuse@btnaccess.com and separately email abuse@isprime.com (who operate the casino site's DNS). With enough complaints they will shut down the site that's really doing the spamming.

Yes, that's true, but videohelp should still cleanse itself. I honestly don't care about other sites, those admins and members can take care of themselves.

Contacting abuse it a good idea. But cleaning VH was what I'm more concerned about.

Agreed, nothing worse than spam especially on that magnitude. I can think of few solutions to prevent that in the future but all are not practical as they would impact the general users. Nothing you can really do to prevent it.

I'd heard a while back about bots registering (on phpBB forums only?), then waiting a short period of time, and then unleashing a mass of spam posts. Was this one of those cases? (I probably should've checked nafnaf's post history, anyway, I guess.)

the best thing to do is find the spammers IP address in his or hers last post and Ban the IP

  7. Removing the nafnaf links from this site is a sensible idea. Many visitors to this site will/already have click/clicked on that link and could have their PC infected with malicious junk.
I myself clicked on the link without thinking beforehand and had to scan my system with Spybot S&D,Lavasoft Ad-Aware and TrendMicro PC-Cillin to make sure it wasn't infected.Luckily it was not.
Newbies visiting VH.com may end up with spyware/adware/virus rather than gaining knowledge.

Edit/Update: Thanks,I just found the post I reported as gone.

Don't know if you have implemented any spam bot registration measures but I applied these two and it has vastly reduced the number of spam registrants I get. Both would be seamless for a regular human registration:

Since a lot of the bots post the "iagree" directly:

    http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=1404100

    The affected files are:

    admin/admin_users.php
    includes/usercp_avatar.php
    includes/usercp_register.php

With a text editor, search for "agreed", and replace it with your own choice of mixed case, or even something like "IAmInAgreement". As long as all references to this variable are identical, registration and profile changes work as before... except for those trying to bypass the system.
That one changes the variable for the agreement and since the default for phpbb is agreed that's what they post to the agreement link. Variable doesn't match and the bot gets sent to the "i don't agree link".

This one is even better, it removes the website field from the registration form, again since the bot doesn't actually load the registration form it doesn't know the field isn't there and submits the registration with a website. Any registration submitted with a website gets instant ban or denied depending on how you set it up. Regular users can submit their website in their profile after a predefined amount of time after sucessful registration.

  10. As Balrick said.. the worst spammers use anonymous proxies. In addition they are human. We pick up the bots pretty easily.

Came across another mod, this one will eliminate all bots from registering. Adds a human question, such as "what shape is the earth?" Registrant has to answer the question. Can also be used with images like a pictur of an apple asking you what it is.

Good point but you can add up to 6 possible answers per question or use a very obvious image and answer. You can add as many images or questions as you want. Even for the same image. so they are random and not repeated for every registrant.

How many red stripes? or Add the red and blue stripes.... etc.

Good idea, but maybe more video related questions like

    What's the best capture card?

    What's the best encoder?

    What's the best ripper?
