  1. Hello,

I have a problem that i'm trying to resolve since 1 week but still couldn't , I have an avi movie that i want to convert and burn into dvd , the problem is that after burning it and try to play it on my dvd player i notice that the video is hanging and some times stops for a few seconds and resume playing .

I've tried several burning software like Nero burning room, nero vision , winavi , windvd creator , and unfortunately i get the same result out of these .

The avi movie is using xvid codec with lame mp3 codec for the sound , i also tried playing it on another dvd player but got the same result .

even i tried to burn a different movie and also got the same result !

nero vision was the best of the software i mentioned above , because the movie starts without any problem but after 30 minutes or so the problem shows , i also thought that it might be because of i'm burning with high speed , so i burned the movie(s) again at 4x speed but that didn't solve the problem ..

and a last note is , the video is working fine when i test it on my pc before burning , the problem only occure when trying to play it on a dvd player , and all the dvd players i tested those movies on are not supporting divx , so do you think that this is the probem? if yes , then how to solve it?

can you please help? i'm getting mad of this problem

    Thanks

Personally, I think you have scraped the bottom of the barrel as far as tools are concerned, especially with WinAVI. I would use ConvertXtoDVD if you must use a one-click method (look in the tools area for the free version, called DivxtoDVD).

However, that said, your problem sounds more like crap media. What discs (brand/media code) are you using ?

    Try this:

Encode your xvid to mpeg2 first with either:

    1. Tmpgenc Xpress

    or

    2. Mainconcept MPEG Encoder

Play the resulting MPEG2 file on your PC - does this play correctly on the PC ?

If yes - use Tmpgenc DVD Author / Nero to author a DVD. Burn this to disc.

Does this play correctly on your DVD player ?

    Bon chance !

Media. If you look to your left there is a menu. One of the options is DVD Media. Search for yours. Datamax is crap, Datalife is marginally better.

Scrimp on media, these are the problems you will get.

guns1inger is right - it could be bad media.

Here's a good way to check:

Buy a good quality DVD -RW or +RW disc (depends on which one your DVD player will play). Ifind that TDK -RW are good in my player.

Burn your movie to the -/+RW and try this on your DVD player.

If this plays fine then it is a media problem and you should throw away the cheap discs.

If you have the same problem as before, then try my encoding options with Tmpgenc or Mainconcept.

    Stop playing about ...

Use DVD-R ... your player may not like the other format's and can be the actual issue .

(use other media type's for console's)

The rule's are easy to find in the forum , as not all dvd player's are alike .

    Dvd-r only
    4x burn
Dont fit more than 4.3gig on media

Nero or use imgtool / imgburn or dvd decrypter to burn (folder2iso , handy tool) .

Then the question fall's onto media brand's ... what has your current player actually liked playing ?
If same brand , and now issue ... it could be a bad batch .

Finally we come to encoder's and other :

Gspot - will let you know if you have the right decoder's installed .
Mpeg properties - tell's you what the make up of mpeg1 and mpeg2 contain .
Super to fix problematic avi's (dont output as vob ... ifoedit will not mux the m2v stream) ... mpeg2 is fine .
Virtualdub , frameserved to bbmpeg (all dvd mpeg2 format output's supported ... ifoedit never complain's)
Avi2dvd (actually by default , use's bbmpeg to encode video stream ... I caught it)
Besweet to encode audio to ac3
    Dvdauthorgui , can also help create dvd's from non-full d1 resolution mpeg2 file's
The gimp - to create you own menu background's
Pgcedit ... for nav command editing ... should you want to fix problem's with dvd navigational error's quickly
    Koolplaya + ac3filter's + vobsub + freedvdcodec (play dvd from folder / dvdrom) .

Everything beyond this is upto you ... which mean's your home dvd player is about to go , clean and test ... or dvd burner might be problem ... for dvd burner , check for bios update ...

Ps : If the right decoder's are installed ... remember , the pc will play anything , and any framerate ... home dvd player's cannot .

  10. Hi,

thanks , my player plays DVD-R , and also my dvd writer is DVD-R , and the dvd cds are DVD-R , so i don't think it's the problem , it might be the media itself , and regarding the player i tried it with more than one player , even tried it on playstation 2 which has a built-in dvd player ! . i believe it's the media but it might not , so i'll try a better media and will let you know about the results .

    Thanks very much Bjs

and regarding the codec , as i said the player doesn't support divx and the actual avi file (before encoding) is a divx file

Test after you burn. I use DVD Info Pro to read test all my discs. That will also tell you quickly if you have crappy media in the drive.
