  1. I have video capture software that i can set the settings manually for in addition to the presets ofered. I need to capture in SVCD formast to create SVCD (PAL) compatible CDs later.

    1) Should i choose constant or variable - If variable what settings for average bitrate and peak bitrate and GOP

    2) Would it be better to capture in DVD and then rip to SVCD compatibility with say TMPEG quality wise though time consuming??

Well your reprocessing it then. Its usually best to process video as LITTLE as possible to retain the best quality.

My suggestion would be to caputer it to the proper format you want FIRST so that you don't fiddle with the video more than you need to.

As Baldrick asked we need to know what capture device you're using to get more specifics in your situation. Most devices will have a setting specifically for svcd. On my old hauppauge wintv pvr250 it had three or four modes for svcd. It had "long play", "super long play" and "standard" modes. The differences let you record more per setting at the sacrice of quality.

As far as constant versus variable I generally don't worry about it. Though there are more picky users here on videohelp who could give you more experience on that topic than me.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
