  1. I know this isn't DVD related, but is there a program I could use to open an MP3 file and edit the file?

I have a song that I want to cut off the end of it because there is a bunch of silence.

Its main advantage is that it works directly in the MP3 format without having to decode/re-encode, so it is very fast and doesn't degrade the music quality.

So, what exactly can mp3Trim do for you? mp3Trim can trim the parts that you want to discard. mp3Trim can adjust the volume - either manually or automatically (normalization) - for example, to amplify those pesky MP3s that sound too low. mp3Trim can fade-in/out (to fix abrupt beginning/ending). mp3Trim can clean up your MP3s and recover wasted disk space.

You can do it with MP3DirectCut. Just launch 2 copies of the program, you can use cut and paste to append selections between the 2 copies of the program and save out to a new file.

What do you mean by 'put' together? You mean cut and paste parts? Or blend or mix two tracks together to make one?

Most audio editors that accept MP3 can do either one. I use Audacity for this.
