    Hi all,

I was hoping that I could rip a menu off of a dvd, meddle with it a bit, and use it for a dvd I want to make. Is there any way of doing this? The menu is from a tv show on dvd, and I want to put in new mock episodes for my work. Anyone know of a good (read: easy) way of doing this?

    Thanks!

    Hi McClainNH,

    Welcome to the forums.

    Rip: DVDFab Decrypter

Meddle: More detail... What do you want to meddle with? What do you want to change / end up with?

Substituting new for original episodes: I'd use DVDRemake Pro, but then again that's coz I already have it.

Easy? This depends on the level of your current knowledge, your desire and propensity to learn. I'll say now that it's not gonna be a one-click solution and will require some insight to how DVDs are structured...

    I hope that helps.

Daamon, thanks for your post. I downloaded DVDRemakePro, and it looks pretty cool so far. It'll take a little fiddling around before I can really do much with it, but it looks like it may be able to do what I want. Do you know if there's any way to copy the whole menu, and open it up with Photoshop to edit the buttons, as layers? That would be perfect.

What kind of editing do you want to do? Actually change the buttons? Delete them? Change where they link to etc.? Some of this can be done in DVDRemake Pro, other stuff can't be and will need some kind of jigger-pokery to get what you want.

Knowing exactly what you want to achieve will define exactly the approach you need to take.

So, here's what I want to do:

I bought the first season of The Office on DVD. I have all of the second season episodes (which I'll buy on dvd once they come out), and would like to make a dvd of them using the menus from the first season. The buttons won't need to be renamed, but I'd like to extract the menus so that I can import them into DVD-Lab. I'd also like to make a jpg or something out of them, so that I can bring them into photoshop and edit the episode summaries. Is that enough info, or do you need something more specific? I'd rather not edit the dvd itself in DVDRemake, since I don't really know how to use it, and I bought a copy of dvd-lab, which I know pretty well, so I'd like to use that if possible.

    Thanks again!

  6. Hi-

To demux a menu, open it in VobEdit. 2 buttons to the right of "Open" is "Demux". Hit that, and when the new screen comes up, check "CellID". "OK" it, give it a new destination and it will give you a bunch of little vobs which make up the menu. You can then demux as many of those as you like into their audio, video, and sub components by opening a particular VOB and going to that same Demux screen and checking the components you wish to demux.

As for capturing a pic for editing, one way is to open the whole Menu Viob, or one cell of the main Menu Vob, in DGIndex, scroll to the pic you want, and then going File->Save BMP. But there are a ton of ways to capture a menu pic.

Personally I don't see the need for DVDLab at all, as, after editing, the menus can be put back together as originally, and each of the original episodes can be replaced with your new episodes. Up to you, though.

okay... So, here's where I show how much of a newbie I am. I opened the vob in vobedit, but I have no idea how to find out which one is the menu... Do I just demux the whole thing? That seems like it would take a kell of a long time. Sorry to be such a pain.

  8. The menu usually is in vts_0X_0.vob where X is the number of VTS. For example the menu vob for vts 1 is vts_01_0.vob

  9. Hehe.

Menu Vobs always end in "0", whereas regular video/movie vobs are numbered 1,2,3, etc. So, typically, a menu vob will be named:

    VTS_01_0.VOB

You're looking for the "0" at the end. You could just play them to test, even if you didn't know.

Edit: Hi Abond. You beat me.

  11. McClainNH,

I must apologise to you. It has been pointed out to me by other users that you may well have simply recorded this off the TV, and therefore you were not in breach of the forum rules or copyright. It was my assumption that was wrong.

Sorry for any inconvenience I have caused you. This was my mistake.
